Thank you for the donations, Mom!

The latest donations have come through a personal connection, my mom.  She has generously given to the program as she recognizes the needs and issues our young adults face.  Several of them have worked for her.  They have helped her landscape flowerbeds, trim bushes, mulch, clean out the garage and much more. They soon will help to take down wallpaper and paint bathrooms.  They are learning new skills and are becoming quite handy!

Great Meeting on Friday, June10th Housing Issues and Glenwood

Several of us met on Friday to share information regarding our trip to Glenwood last month.  We had a very fruitful meeting and two families are working together now to formulate a survey to send to the families and individuals in our area regarding housing needs and services desired.  I spoke personally with Glenwood on Friday prior to the meeting and they are behind us.  They, too, are looking for ways to expand their services and it is our hope that we can work together as a team to glean information; formulate plans and begin to implement housing opportunities.  We are looking at a "community" setup and each one of you will be a part of the plan in some form or another.  Look for  a survey to be sent to you via email within the next month.  Complete it and return it so that when we meet with Glenwood we will have some specifics for them and they will have specifics for us.

We are excited about the opportunities that we discussed at Glenwood and hope to be sharing more information in early September.  Please remember that our first official fundraiser is August 27, 2011 from
6 -9 at Flying Monkey Theatre Lowe Mill Center.  DiscOasis is the highlight band; however, some students will be playing their instruments and also displaying their artwork from 6 pm until 7 pm.  Hope to see you there.

Housing Visit to Glenwood last Friday, May 13th

Our visit to Glenwood was productive and quite a hospitable experience.  We couldn't have asked for better hosts and hostesses.  We toured the campus; visited homes (both onsite and off); viewed the school and enjoyed sharing in the enthusiasm of what is to come in Huntsville.  Mike and Okye Widman are the lead chairs on the Housing Committee and there will be a meeting soon.  Look for information from them, from me and also here on our website

Autism Walk Huntsville, Al April 2nd, 2011

What a wonderful experience.  : ) If you took time to visit our table, I want to personally thank you for your time.  It was an awesome day and truly a blessed one.  Hope you will join us in August as we sign the Asperger Syndrome Awareness Proclamation with Mayor Tommy Battle and Mayor Paul Finley.  In the meantime, support efforts in your local communities to meet the needs of individuals and families touched by autism spectrum disorders.
A special thank you to all the parents, board members, "our kids", young adults and others who came to assist and support.  I couldn't have done it without you.
Look for us at the May 6th workshop at Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville.  We will be there.
Blessings to you and yours.
